Information for Arts Organizations

US non-profit organizations are eligible to apply for an award to host an ArtsLink Fellow listed above. In 2012, these are visual and media artists and arts managers from any of 32 eligible countries. These Fellows have been selected by US arts professionals in a highly competitive peer review process.

ArtsLink eliminates the administrative and logistical tasks associated with hosting an international visitor by arranging visas, organizing and paying for international and domestic travel and hosting an orientation and a concluding session in New York. Host organizations receive funding to cover the living, working and materials costs for the ArtsLink Fellow’s residency, as well as modest administrative expenses for the host. During the five-week residency, ArtsLink staff is available to provide guidance and advice to host organizations.

The next residency period will be October 11 through November 14, 2012.

Letter of Interest

After reviewing the list of 2012 Fellows, organizations that wish to host an artist or arts manager should write a letter of interest. Letters will be reviewed on a rolling basis, but must be received no later than June 1, 2012. We strongly encourage you to send your letter soon and to contact ArtsLink staff for further information. The letter of interest should name the ArtsLink Fellow(s) you wish to host, in order of preference.

The letter should provide:

• A brief explanation of why your organization would like to host the artist.

• A description of what opportunities you can offer for the artist to engage with your community

• A brief description of facilities, equipment and resources that will be made available to the Fellow.

Please include the mission statement of your organization and a sampling of publicity materials with the letter.

Review & Notification

ArtsLink staff will consider your letter to assess the extent to which your organization can address the specific interests and professional practice of the ArtsLink Fellow(s), what resources can be provided and the potential for community engagement. An interview process will be conducted with the strongest applicants to identify the best potential matches. The identified organizations will be asked to complete a short application and provide a budget. ArtsLink staff will consult with arts professionals familiar with residency programs and/or the region for final recommendations. Organizations that have submitted a letter of interest will be notified by August 1, 2012.

ArtsLink Residencies offers artists and arts managers from eligible overseas countries a five-week residency at an established, non-profit arts organization in the US. The program is designed to create opportunities for artists and communities across the US to share artistic practices with artists and arts managers from abroad and engage in dialogue that advances understanding across cultures.

New this year! The ArtsLink Lab is a pilot program for one ArtsLink Residencies Fellow to create and present projects with extensive community involvement working together with US artists and other individuals in the host community. Unlike the other ArtsLink Residencies, this focused opportunity requires the submission of a proposal for a specific project that can be achieved by the end of the residency period. The ArtsLink Lab is open to both artists and arts managers.

Host organizations are selected based on an application process open to US non-profit organizations from all fifty US states. Applicants do not need to have contacts with organizations in the US to apply for this program.

For the 2012 Residencies program, ArtsLink will accept applications from artists and arts managers working in visual and media arts. Artists and arts managers working in dance, music, theater and literature may apply in October 2012 for the 2013 Residencies program.

ArtsLink Residencies allows artists and arts managers from eligible countries to:

  • Pursue artistic and/or professional collaborations that will enrich and enhance their work
  • Share ideas and expertise with US artists and organizations, with residents of the broader host community, and with colleagues from the region who participate in the program
  • Expand knowledge of arts practice and deepen understanding of cultural life in the US
  • Create new work that draws inspiration from interaction with artists and arts professionals within the US host community
  • Expand professional arts management skills through work with US organizations

The different components of ArtsLink Awards are funded with major support from the National Endowment for the Arts and by the Trust for Mutual Understanding, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Ohio Arts Council, the Kettering Fund, the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation and the individual supporters of CEC ArtsLink, with additional support from the Romanian Cultural Institute and the Polish Cultural Institute.
